Family Day fun at fire service HQ - A Little Bit of Stone

Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service mascot Welephant will be at the Family Day

Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service is holding the biggest event in its calendar, its bi-annual Family Day on Saturday 15th September in Stone.

The Family Day will be held at the service?s headquarters, off the A34 at Pirehill from noon to 4pm.

Entry is free and members of the public are invited for a fun-filled day. Families will be able to watch a variety of firefighting demonstrations, including animal rescues and car crash extrications. There will also be the opportunity to take a tour of the Service?s Fire Control and be entertained by Service mascots Welephant and Blaze Bear, jugglers and a mini-landrover ride for the kids.

Events manager Jude Russell said: ?Our Family Days are always hugely popular events and this year is set to be the biggest and best yet! Our last Family Day was in 2010 and we raised over ?2,000 for The Fire Fighters Charity. We will have representatives from each area of the county who will be on hand to speak to their local communities.

?Our Service mascots, Welephant and Blaze Bear, will also be there entertaining the children. Children aged between four and eight can sign up to our free Welephant Club which gives its members a welcome pack, quarterly fun-packed newsletters plus a birthday and Christmas card.?

Stafford FM will be helping to host the event and will be broadcasting live from the site, entertaining the crowds with music and talking about Fire Service campaigns.

Chief Fire Officer/Chief Executive Peter Dartford added: ?This is a fantastic opportunity for us give the public a real insight into the Fire Service and for them to see all the different kinds of work we are involved with. It?s also a great way for us to raise awareness about the importance of fire safety in a fun and informal atmosphere.?

Refreshments will be on sale throughout the day as well as a hog roast and BBQ.

Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service Headquarters is located off the A34 at Pirehill, Stone, Staffordshire, ST15 0BS and is signposted on the A34 from both directions. Free parking will be available on the day.
