Today, BARC Animal Shelter and Adoptions announced the first ever Mayor?s Pets of the Week with Houston Mayor Annise Parker. Mayor Parker is championing some of the many adorable adoptables available at BARC during the ASPCA Rachael Ray $100K Challenge by snapping weekly photos with a dog and cat through the end of October. Beginning next week, BARC plans to release the Mayor?s Pets of the Week every Monday. The photos will also be posted to BARC?s Facebook Page: http://www.facebook.com/BARCHouston.

Name: Duke
Animal ID: A1086827
Breed: Labrador Retriever Mix (Male)
Age: Approximately 10 weeks old
Expected Full-Grown Size: Medium to Large
More about Duke: Duke is a very sweet boy that loves to cuddle and give puppy kisses. He?s playful and loyal and will win your heart in a second! He came into BARC with three of his siblings when he was just a couple of weeks old. The pups? foster parents took good care of them until they were ready for a permanent home. Duke and two of his siblings are now available for adoption. Since Duke is so young, he needs a home full of love and affection and will need to go outside every couple of hours until he is completely potty trained. Duke is just one of many canines at BARC that are ready to go home with a new family, so stop by the shelter and find your new best friend today!

Name:
Sierra
Animal ID: A1087884
Breed: Domestic Short Hair (Female)
Age: Approximately 6 months old

More about Sierra:
If you are looking for a sweet kitty that will cuddle and lounge on the couch with you, Sierra is your gal! She?s very sweet and easy going and has endless amounts of love to give. Sierra was taken into the shelter when she was very young, and was taken care of by a foster family until she was ready for adoption. She is healthy and has all of her age-appropriate vaccinations. Now she is ready for her brand new home with her brand new family! Sierra is one of many adorable kitties waiting for their new home at BARC, so stop by today and adopt the kitty you have been looking for! The simplest, but most powerful thing you can do to help BARC, and pets throughout our community, is to talk to your friends, neighbors, and family about caring for pets responsibly.
