The Cataracs, the electronic dance hip-hop group based out of Los Angeles ushered a party-ready crowd to SF State Sunday afternoon.
Originally from Berkeley, the group dropped out of school and moved to Los Angeles to pursue their music careers.?Returning home to the Bay Area for a show brought by?SF State at Student Life, The Cataracs were supported by a bill of local SF State DJs.
The founding members of The Cataracs, David Singer-Vine and Niles Hollowell-Dhar, who previously attended SF State, met at Berkeley High after Hollowell-Dhar released a ?diss? song in response to an album Singer-Vine was distributing.
The incident actually brought the two closer together, however, Singer-Vine recently left the group to travel and do some self exploration.
Xpress sat down with Niles Hollowell-Dhar before he went on stage to talk about his journey into the music industry, dropping out of college and life in Los Angeles. And with a band name that comes from a line of a Snoop Dawg song that says, ?Smoke ?til your eyes get cataracts,? the conversation naturally covered the topics of sex, drugs and hip hop.
