LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) - Coming together to honor a young life lost. Friday night, friends and family held a vigil to remember a 15-year-old killed in an ATV crash Thursday.
Investigators say Michael Sparks died after his ATV hit a truck at the intersection of Eastland Parkway and Anniston Drive. His vigil was held there. Dozens of people came out to remember Michael Sparks.
"It shows how many people actually cared for him, love him," noted family friend Ashley Walling. Walling was amazed at the number of people huddled together to remember the 15-year-old she considers a brother.
"So many people came up to the hospital last night, and it was kinda like how many people are here tonight."
Sparks' sister Gina Buckler told WKYT she's been overwhelmed with community support, "it shows me how much that Michael cared for people and they cared for him. He was a good kid. Help anybody. Master with his hands. Skilled mechanic."
Buckler says Thursday night, Michael was helping a friend fix something. He was headed home on an ATV when police say he ran a stop sign, hit a truck, and died at the intersection. Now his friends are looking out for his twin brother, supporting him by showing up.
"I told him I do not want to catch him on nothing motorized. I don't want to lose him," said Walling.
Sparks' family has dealt with tragedy before. His older brother Ronnie Sparks was killed last year.
