Dear South San Francisco,
I first heard about breast cancer by doing something all nine year olds do...listening to adult conversations.? That?s how I found out my grandmother, Alice, had breast cancer.? I was scared and couldn?t talk about it because I wasn?t supposed to know.? She was diagnosed at age 69 and lived to be 81.? She was the first breast cancer survivor I knew.?
Since my grandmother was diagnosed with breast cancer in 1985, I have watched family members and other?s close to me fight against breast cancer and win.? It is the strength and courage of these women that motivates me to participate in the Susan G. Komen 3-Day for the Cure. I want to take a bold step toward conquering breast cancer.? I will walk 60 miles in three days for the women in my life who have won their battle against breast cancer and for the ones who will fight this battle in the future.?
I am joining forces with team Pink Pirates to walk a 60 mile journey through San Diego on November 16th, 17th and 18th.? I am walking to raise money to support research for my local community and to bring awareness to a cause that is very important to me.? Please visit team Pink Pirate?s blog to read about the team?s training journey as we prepare for The 3-Day.? http://3daypinkpirates.wordpress.com/
My personal challenge begins now as I am committed to raising $2,300. I am asking you to make a commitment too. Please consider making a fully tax-deductible donation to help me achieve this goal. I will be doing all the walking.? All you need to do is make a donation.??Please visit my donation page to donate to this worthy cause.?
All donations are greatly appreciated as every little bit helps in this great big fight.? You can spread your credit card donation over four monthly payments using the payment plan and your company may even offer to match your donation through their Matching Gifts program.?
?The only singular truth about breast cancer is this: There is no singular truth about breast cancer.? Our best strategy is to respect and listen to one another, share what we learn, reach across the aisle, and make women?s lives a higher priority than political agenda.? Because I guess there actually is one absolute truth about breast cancer: There shouldn?t be any.?? Promise Me ? Nancy Brinker
I walk because everyone deserves a lifetime.? I walk because I can.? I walk because the journey demands it and the goal is clear: a world without breast cancer.? I walk because I cannot walk away.? I walk so that one day no one will have to walk.
Sincerely,?
Amanda Gross (Counselor at Alta Loma?Middle School)
