FAMILY LAW ATTORNEYS REAP BENEFITS ... - The Legal Assistant

Family law practice software imageModern technology continues to improve the life of attorneys, paralegals and legal secretaries throughout the United States.? The Legal Assistant is one of the companies participating in this technological change.? The Legal Assistant has added recently their newest product, The Family Law Assistant (TFLA).? TFLA provides to family attorneys a simple and yet profound case management system to improve law office management, efficiency, quality of work, and help provide peace of mind to the family law practitioner.

?

Practicing in the family law area has its own distinct problems and sophistications.? This new family law software provides the case management, contact management, and document management services needed in order for family law practitioners to practice more efficiently and lower the cost of doing business.

?

The software, TFLA, was developed over the years primarily from two sources.? First, the software was designed by and in consultation with attorneys thoroughly experienced in the particular problems in the practice of family law. ?As in all areas of law today in the United States, the attorney, paralegal, and legal secretary need to practice only in areas that they are able to provide appropriate and competent services.? Developed with these family law experts, TFLA allows experienced attorneys and newer attorneys, to both practice safely and productively.? Second, there are the years of experience that The Legal Assistant has had in the use by attorneys throughout the United States of our previous products, The Personal Injury Assistant, The Real Estate Assistant and The Criminal Law Assistant.

?

A partial list of the specific areas that are covered in this software, TFLA, includes:

?

  • Time management and billing system
  • Document assembly
  • Legal calendaring
  • Contact management
  • Case management
  • Clients, Dependents and Spouse Database
  • County Court & Judge Database (New Jersey by default)
  • Attorney Database (New Jersey by default)
  • Expert Database

?

While this program comes with a default set of data for New Jersey, including judges, court data and other information, the complete package dovetails perfectly with the use of court forms in other jurisdictions.? For example, in California, fillable all court forms are provided by the governing State Judicial Council.? Those forms are available at http://www.courts.ca.gov/, are able to be uniquely filled out on your computer, and relate to the case management aspect of your case provided by The Legal Assistant.

?

Of course, there is constant updating of the system because of not only the change in technology, but also the constant change in court personnel, information concerning the court system, and general databases.

?

The TFLA, The Family Law Assistant, contains pre-designed family law templates for divorce, domestic violence, pre-nuptial agreements, visitation, child support, child abuse, child custody, military divorce and spousal support, but also allows you to use a customizable database which allows you to add in other areas of family law practice.? In all circumstances, the forms can be modified to fit your case.? In addition, the workflow management of the TFLA software allows you to modify it easily in order to optimize the custom workflow system already in place in your office.

?

The Legal Assistant allows you to manage all aspects of the case, and use the court forms independently. All systems work within one software application which allows you to smoothly transition from one type of work on an individual case, and also transition smoothly with no change of software to another client.? Importantly, TFLA is also extremely easy to use, and The Legal Assistant provides free chat and webinars.? You can sign up at any time for the seminars, and of course, the legal chat results in either immediate results during business hours, or a response the next day.

?

All of the programs of The Legal Assistant work from the same database so that other work such as real estate or criminal law is easily accessed.? TFLA is also fully compatible with Microsoft Office and allows you to use Outlook, Word and Excel seamlessly.

?

Finally, The Legal Assistant includes financing functionality, which allows you to get the complete package including the time management and billing system for just $75.00 per month with only a six-month commitment.? This pricing system allows all legal practitioners to easily afford the upgrade in their practice of law, which in a short period of time saves them money, increases their efficiency and provides them with peace of mind, which sometimes can be difficult in the field of family law.

Zite for Android officially launches, learns your habits and tailors your news

Zite for Android

If you're a big consumer of news and information on your Android device, you'll be happy to hear this news. Zite, the personalized magazine app that's been popular on iDevices for about a year now, has finally been brought over to Android.

Zite aims to bring you the news most tailored to your interests, and it continues to learns what your preferences are the more you use it. Fortunately, the app doesn't leave you out in the cold after your first boot. Once you've opened the app once, you can link your Twitter and Google Reader accounts to give Zite a starting point for what your interests are.

After you've linked some accounts, you can then pick from a list of different genres to further tailor the news you'll be brought. The list is fairly expansive, and should give nearly anyone all of the options they could hope for (and more).

Navigation around the app is easy; simply swipe left or right to move from genre-to-genre. Articles are presented in a list fashion, and if you tap an article, you're shown the full contents of what was written. A little niggle I noticed is that certain articles decided to automatically launch in the browser instead of the app. I'm hoping that's just an early release issue and will get fixed soon.

Otherwise, on a tablet, the UI is pretty plan, but functional. Zite doesn't look like it was optimized for Android tablets, but it runs, nonetheless. With Ice Cream Sandwich out, I was kind of hoping for more in terms of visual polish, but if just getting a working app out the door was the goal of the developers, they've done that much.

Zite for Android definitely comes off like it's still in beta, but it's been a hit on iDevices for some time, so if you were pining away for it, it's finally here. If your run-of-the-mill RSS feeds (or Pulse or Google Reader) weren't cutting it, definitely give Zite a shot. If they were, maybe you should give Zite a shot, anyway. It's definitely got room to grow, but I'm sure the developers will be hard at work, ramping up their app for the Android faithful.

We've got a whole bundle of screenshots after the break.

Michael Lynton becomes CEO of Sony America, Nicole Seligman picked for SCA president

ImagePlenty of moving and shaking going on after the bell today. Hot on the heels of news that RIM's CEO is making major internal changes, in flies word that Michael Lynton has been selected as the CEO of Sony Corp. America. He's coming over from Sony Pictures Entertainment, where he previously sat as the Chairman and CEO. Effective June 27th, Lynton will have a few new reports as well, and unsurprisingly, Sir Howard Stringer is more than encouraged by the move.

Stringer stated: "Lynton is an incredibly accomplished executive who has distinguished himself in at least three different fields -- entertainment, technology and publishing." In related news, Nicole Seligman has been appointed SCA President; we're told that Lynton will be overseeing Sony's entertainment businesses (including SME, Sony / ATV Music Publishing and SPE), while Seligman will have responsibility for Sony's U.S. headquarters operations. Hard to foresee what two relatively new names mean for the consumer side of Sony's business, but we'll be keeping a close eye on their first hundred days, for sure. The full release is after the break.

Sony and Sharp joint venture hits a rocky patch, Sony cuts off capital

Sharp Plant
When Sharp sold off some of its LCD manufacturing business to Hon Hai Precision we knew the company had fallen on tough times, we just didn't realize how bad things truly were. That joint venture it formed with Sony, well, it's all but over at this point. The two companies have amended their deal with each other and Sony has decided not to inject any more capital into the project. That's not entirely surprising since the relationship was already starting to show signs of strain, but the partnership could crumble at any moment. A study period has been designated, through the end of September, to decide what the future holds for the two regarding the production and purchase of large panel LCDs, but at any time Sony can simply demand that Sharp buy back its shares and leave the venture. For Sharp's sake, we certainly hope Hon Hai is in this for the long haul. Check out the legalese stuffed PR after the break.

Conversion kit lets you push your RAZR to the Maxx for $110

Conversion kit lets you push your RAZR to the Maxx for $110
Let's pretend you went ahead and purchased a shiny new Motorola RAZR this past November. Now, just for the sake of argument, let's say Motorola -- only months later -- released a new version of that handset with a battery that had some pundits asking, 'where has this phone been my whole life?' Yeah, that happened. But if you've managed to overlook Moto's past transgression, and are willing to sink another $110 into your handset, you too can experience the battery that just won't quit. The Cellphone Repair Shop is hawking a kit that will outfit your plain old RAZR with genuine Motorola RAZR Maxx parts -- battery included. The site recommends that you send your handset to its repair facility for "professional installation," but we're sure some of you are up to the challenge. How about it, RAZR owners, are any of you tinkerers going to try and Maxx-out your handset?

Apple patents Siri-like system for controlling cameras, PMPs through a computer or smartphone

Image
"Siri, turn on the flash and take three pictures with my camera after waiting two seconds." Apple's intelligent voice control system has been wildly popular amongst consumers in the U.S., and abroad, but Siri could be making her way to other devices in the future, including iPods, cameras and other consumer electronics. "Okay, Rock God, I will take your picture in two, one..." A patent by Apple filed in 2010 but published today describes a scenario in which you could control a secondary electronic device using your voice, with all of the backend processing passing through a connected smartphone or computer. According to the patent:

One embodiment may include a first electronic device communicatively coupled to a server and to a second electronic device. The second electronic device may be a portable electronic device, such as a digital media player, that includes a voice user interface. The second electronic device may be capable of accurate speech recognition, but may not include additional computation hardware and/or software for training the speech recognition engine. As such, the bulk, weigh, and cost for manufacturing the second electronic device may be reduced, resulting in a more portable and affordable product.

In other words, you could have Siri-like control of virtually any device, with all of the required hardware and software residing on an iPhone or MacBook, linked with other devices over WiFi or Bluetooth. Voice control wouldn't be practical in all situations, but it could be enormously helpful for certain operations, like adjusting settings or reviewing images. Instead of scrolling through hundreds of images, you could simply say "Siri, show me pictures from last Thursday," and see exactly the shots you were searching for. As always, this is one of thousands of Apple patents, and it quite possibly may never come to fruition as described. But here's to hoping it will. "Siri, show our readers the patent application" -- you'll find it at the source link below.

Update: Well, it looks like we missed the mark a little bit here, as this is a patent application, not a granted patent. It's for a voice control system where a device receives voice commands and turns them into text using a speech-recognition algorithm received from a remote server -- which sounds an awful lot like Siri.

Bremerhaven/Bern, 29 March 2012. Why did the atmosphere contain so little carbon dioxide (CO2) during the last Ice Age 20,000 years ago? Why did it rise when the Earth's climate became warmer? Processes in the ocean are responsible for this, says a new study based on newly developed isotope measurements. This study has now been published in the scientific journal "Science" by scientists from the Universities of Bern and Grenoble and the Alfred Wegener Institute for Polar and Marine Research in the Helmholtz Association.

Around 20,000 years ago, the atmospheric CO2 concentration during the last Ice Age was distinctly lower than in the following warm period. Measurements from Antarctic ice cores showed this already two decades ago. An international team of glaciologists thereafter looked even further back in time. The climate researchers found that this close connection between carbon dioxide and temperature has existed over the past 800,000 years: with low CO2 concentrations during the Ice Ages and higher CO2 values during warm periods. Now they tried to answer also the question as to where the carbon dioxide was hidden during the Ice Ages and how it got back into the atmosphere at their ends.

"We have now been able to identify processes in the ocean which are connected to the observed rise in CO2", says Dr. Jochen Schmitt, lead author of the recently published study and researcher at the Oeschger Centre for Climate Change Research at the University of Bern. According to Schmitt, during the Ice Age more and more carbon dioxide accumulated in the deep ocean, causing the concentration of atmospheric CO2 to drop. Only at the end of the Ice Age was this stored CO2 transported back to the sea surface through changing ocean circulation and thus emitted back into the atmosphere, write the scientists in the scientific journal "Science".

A new method for isotope measurements has now made it possible for the first time "to reliably decode the fingerprint of the CO2 preserved in the ice", explains Schmitt. He and his colleague Prof. Hubertus Fischer initially developed these new isotope measurement methods for ice cores at the Alfred Wegener Institute for Polar and Marine Research and further refined them in many years of research work after moving to Bern. Using the new method the glaciologists extract the air trapped in the ice core completely and the CO2 contained in the air is thoroughly cleaned. The different isotopes of the CO2 are analysed in a mass spectrometer and from this data the origin of the carbon dioxide can be derived.

Researchers suggested back in the eighties that this puzzle could be solved using an isotopic "CO2 fingerprint". However, it had so far not been possible to make a precise analysis of the carbon dioxide trapped in the Antarctic ice due to the technical hurdles. The glaciologists and the climate researchers at the Universities of Bern and Grenoble and of the Alfred Wegener Institute for Polar and Marine Research have now managed a breakthrough with their study.

Development of Future Scenarios

"The new data have already enabled us to revise and improve a few theories about the possible reasons for CO2 fluctuations. Measurement data from the past enable us to gain a clearer idea about how the climate must have looked at the end of the Ice Age", says Jochen Schmitt. And now the data must be compared with the results from climate models to verify and further develop the models. "In addition to the scientific curiosity about how our Earth functioned in the past, the main question to be asked is how the Earth will develop under the influence of man", explains Jochen Schmitt. These are important scenarios for the future because the CO2 content in the atmosphere has never been anywhere near as high over the past 800,000 years as today, says the climate researcher.

Lenovo outs Enterprise App Shop for business-oriented Android folks
We'd previously seen Lenovo work its app game by handing out dev classes to high schoolers, and now it's got some application bits for the grown-ups. Earlier today, the Chinese manufacturer introduced its Enterprise App Shop, which is said to run on Android slates that are sporting Honeycomb or any later version of the OS. Lenovo's also stuffed an "App Shop Manager" feature in the biz-oriented market, allowing companies to build a mini app store where they can add and control their own applications. The ThinkPad maker says the Enterprise App Store Shop's simplicity will help by "eliminating factory resets and streamlining app installation," while being "very intuitive and easy to use." We'll have to wait and see if that's indeed the case.
